MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two newcomers of the West Virginia University women's soccer team are set to attend the Women's EXCEL Canadian U-20 Camp held in Burnaby, British Columbia, from Aug. 11-16.
 
Defender Julianne Vallerand and goalkeeper Kayza Massey will depart for Burnaby this weekend. The duo, along with freshman midfielder Aaliyah Scott, previously played for the U-20 team in a three-match international series in July.
 
"I'm very happy for both of them," WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "It's a great opportunity and a huge honor for them to be with their national team and play with some of the best in the country."
 
A native of Terrebonne, Quebec, Vallerand earned the 2018 Alexandre Despatie Award as the best high school athlete while attending St. Antoine de St. Exubery High. She also competed with the Canadian U-17 Women's National Team at the 2018 CONCACAF Qualification and the 2017 Four Nations Tournament.
 
Massey hails from Ottawa, Ontario, and previously competed for the Ghana U-17 Women's National Team as the starting goalkeeper at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. She also posted a tournament-best shut-out total at the 2017 Disney Showcase, earning the gold medal.
 
Vallerand and Massey competed with the Canadian U-17 Women's National Team at the 2018 Women's World Cup in Uruguay, where the squad finished fourth.
