
Nineteen Earn Academic All-Big 12 Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Big 12 Conference today named 19 West Virginia University student-athletes to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team.
The team recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at Conference institutions who participate in sports outside of Big 12 competition, including rifle and men's soccer.
A conference-best five Mountaineers earned first-team honors with 4.0 grade point averages: Will Anti (rifle, accounting and finance), Stephen Banick (men's soccer, business data analytics), Pascal Derwaritsch (men's soccer, sport management), David Koenders (rifle, psychology) and Ginny Thrasher (rifle, biomedical engineering).
In total, 15 Mountaineers were named to the first team: Milica Babic (rifle, industrial engineering), Sebastian Garcia-Herreros (men's soccer, civil engineering), Ryan Kellogg (men's soccer, finance), Rushawn Larmond (men's soccer, public health), Logan Lucas (men's soccer, global supply chain management), Kevin Morris (men's soccer, mathematics), Sarah Osborn (rifle, exercise physiology), Morgan Phillips (rifle, sport and exercise psychology), Ethan Shim (men's soccer, exercise physiology) and Tsubasa Takada (men's soccer, sport management).
Four men's soccer players were named to the second team: Albert Andres-Llop (sport management), Spenser Myers (business), Joey Piatczyc (communication studies) and Steven Tekesky (general studies).
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation also are eligible.
