WVU Finishes Regular Season Against GW
April 26, 2019 06:15 PM | Rowing
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team concluded its regular season against George Washington on Friday on the Potomac River, in Washington, D.C.
"I'm pleased with how well our coxswains navigated today's course in the absence of buoy lines," said coach Jimmy King. "I've seen many crews go off course on this river, but all of our crews performed well in that regard."
"Overall, our racing reflected how training went this week," King added. "The crews that rowed better in the preceding days raced better than those that were inconsistent."
In the first race of the day, the first varsity eight crew crossed the finish line in 6:45.85 to finish in second.
The second varsity eight boat finished its race in 6:59.16 to place second, while the third varsity eight boat finished in 7:11.15 to also take second.
In the closest race of the day, the first varsity four crew finished nearly six seconds shy of first (7:37.62) to wrap up Friday morning's races.
"When we get home, we'll review areas of specific need for improvement, but it really starts with day-to-day consistency," said King.
Friday afternoon's scrimmage was canceled due to weather in the area.
