MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team travels to Florida for the second time in as many weeks as they head to the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State in Tallahassee on Saturday and Sunday.
The 2019 season marks WVU's fourth straight year at the event, though the home course changed in previous years.
The No. 41 Mountaineers and host No. 30 Seminoles will join No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 29 Louisville, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Illinois State, Kentucky, James Madison, Kansas State, Princeton, Troy, Morehead State and Nicholls in the field.
Golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Saturday and will play 36 continuous holes. They'll return to action on Sunday in tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. West Virginia is paired with Kentucky and Cincinnati for the first two rounds.
"This is a golf course we played last year, so we should be somewhat familiar with the possible hole locations and course set-up," WVU coach Sean Covich said. "It's always comforting as a player stepping back onto a course you've seen before and I'm looking forward to seeing what we learned after our play here last season."
Senior Max Sear, sophomore Matthew Sharpstene and junior Etienne Papineau represented the Mountaineers at last week's Florida Gators Invitational and will all be in the lineup this week as well. Papineau led the way for West Virginia with a T-15th finish as the Mountaineers finished eighth.
They'll be joined by sophomore Logan Perkins and freshman Kurtis Grant. Grant, who ranks fourth on the team with a 73.25 scoring average, recently finished T-11th at the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate.
Following the tournament, WVU will be off until mid-March when the Mountaineers play in the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charleston, South Carolina.
