WVU Looks to Rebound at Texas Tech

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The West Virginia University women's basketball team will look to bounce back from Saturday's loss at Iowa State on Wednesday when the team travels to Lubbock, Texas, for a Big 12 battle with Texas Tech. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside United Supermarkets Arena.
Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will have the radio call on the Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield IMG College on Jack-FM 100.9, as well as various affiliates across the state, WVUsports.com and the TuneIn Radio app. The game is set to air on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.
West Virginia and Texas Tech meet for the 15th time on Wednesday. All 14 prior meetings have been as part of Big 12 play as the series dates back to the 2012-13 season when WVU joined the Big 12. The Mountaineers are 9-5 all-time against the Red Raiders and are 3-3 in Lubbock. WVU has won four straight over TTU.
The Mountaineers and the Lady Raiders previously squared off on Jan. 23 in Morgantown, with West Virginia picking up a 68-65 victory inside the WVU Coliseum. Redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin led the scoring with 23 points while junior guard Lucky Rudd went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line on her way to 14 points. Senior forward Naomi Davenport also finished in double figures with 13 points and a team-best seven rebounds. WVU finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field with four 3-pointers.
WVU (16-6, 7-4) is coming off a 77-61 loss at No. 22 Iowa State on Saturday. It marked the team's first loss since Jan. 20. Freshman Madisen Smith had a career-high 24 points and hit a career-best five shots from downtown. For her efforts, Smith was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Davenport was the only other play in double figures as she put up 14 points while freshman forward Kari Niblack had a team-best nine rebounds and three blocks.
Under first-year coach Marlene Stollings, Texas Tech has put together an 11-12 record overall and a 2-10 mark in Big 12 play coming off a 90-78 win over Oklahoma State at home on Saturday. The Lady Raiders enter Wednesday's game averaging 71.6 points per game and 45.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41 percent from the field, 28.9 percent from the perimeter and 61.5 percent at the free-throw line. Freshman guard Chrislyn Carr leads the team in scoring at 18.5 points per game and is one of three players in double figures. Additionally, she boasts a team-best 85 assists and 39 steals. Brittany Brewer averages 16.3 points per game, while Sydney Goodson comes in at 10.5 points per game. Zuri Sanders leads the effort on the glass with 10.9 rebounds per game.
