
Doanes Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After continuing his hot hitting at the plate, freshman third baseman Tyler Doanes of the West Virginia University baseball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Doanes led the Mountaineers with a .600 batting average in the team's three-game series at TCU last weekend. He hit his first career home run – an inside-the-parker – and had two hits in every game, along with three RBIs in Sunday's series finale. The Fayetteville, Georgia, native had a team-leading 1.000 slugging percentage at TCU and a .786 slugging percentage for the week.
Doanes led the Big 12 among freshmen with a .500 batting average last week and ranked No. 7 overall with a .563 on-base percentage, both team-leading totals.
Doanes and the Mountaineers return home to close out the 2018 regular season this week. On Tuesday night, WVU hosts Marshall at Monongalia County Ballpark before it welcomes Baylor for a three-game Big 12 series from Thursday-Saturday.

We can't and shouldn't be dismissive of our standing among our conference foes, and the reality is that we simply need to keep working to get fitter and stronger. While the results aren't good in that regard, the process has been quite good, and for that, I commend our team. A final thank you to our four seniors – Abby, Aria, Lily and Jackie. They are all four-year rowers who made contributions to our team's progress on and off the water during their time at WVU. We wish each of them much success and look forward to welcoming them back as alumnae next season."
