MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team commences postseason action at the 2018 Big 12 Championship, from May 12-13, on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

WVU will face Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, No. 3 Texas and conference affiliates Alabama, Old Dominion and Tennessee over the course of two days. For the fourth consecutive year, the Volunteers will host the Big 12 Championship.

"Following a spring season in which we missed more water time than I ever recall, we've been fortunate to have very good rowing conditions in the lead-up to the Big 12 Championship," coach Jimmy King said. "Our students did a good job managing finals week with training, and although we were experiencing a bit of post-finals week fatigue, they appear to be rebounding, as we near the racing weekend. In our final rows prior to the start of racing, we'll simply focus on sharpening things up."

On Saturday, the eight teams will split into two, four-team heats and will race the 2,000-meter course to determine who will compete in the Grand Final and Petite Final on Sunday.

Saturday's action is slated to begin at 2 p.m. ET with the Mountaineers kicking off action in heat one of the first varsity eight race. At 2:45 p.m., WVU's second varsity eight crew will compete in the second heat. The first varsity four will compete at 3 p.m., while the second varsity four boat will close the day with a launch at 3:45 p.m.

The top-three crews in each heat will advance to the Grand Final held on Sunday, while the remaining three teams will compete in the Petite Final.

Each team will earn points for its respective finishes in each of the finals with the winning team earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Sarasota, Florida, held from May 25-27. The Longhorns have won seven of the last nine Big 12 Championships, which was first held in 2009.

Results from each day can be found here. A live stream will also be available at Big12sports.com.
