Rowing Returns to Sarasota for Big 12 Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team will compete at the 2026 Big 12 Championship on Sunday, May 17, at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
WVU will compete with its 1V8, 2V8, 3V8, 1V4 and 2V4.
Six programs will compete in the 17th Big 12 Championship. Current Big 12 schools UCF, Kansas, Kansas State and West Virginia and affiliate members Old Dominion and Tulsa will be vying for an NCAA automatic bid and a Big 12 title.
The Mountaineers have previously faced all five schools this season. This will mark the fourth meeting with Old Dominion, third with Kansas and Tulsa and second with Kansas State and UCF.
The racing schedule includes six final-only races. The Championship starts at 9 a.m. with the 3V4 exhibition race. Scoring races will begin 15 minutes later with the 3V8 and continue with 15-minute centers for the rest of the field. An awards ceremony will conclude the day.
The team with the highest combined score among the three NCAA automatic qualifier races – 1V8, 2V8 and 1V4 – will receive the Conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. The team with the highest combined score among the points races - 1V8, 2V8, 1V4, 2V4 and 3V8 - will take home the Big 12 title.
