MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team closed the 2018 regular season on Saturday by competing against Saint Joseph's and Delaware on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
"Today was a solid day for the team as a whole," assistant coach Tina Griffith said. "Each crew was able to put together a more complete set of races and was able to make gains upon last week's results. We are looking forward to carrying the momentum from this weekend into the next few weeks of practice and into our conference championships."
The Mountaineers began the day by taking on host Saint Joseph's in four races. The third varsity eight boat opened the contest for West Virginia, besting their counterparts by less than a second, finishing with a time of 7:16.3. Saint Joseph's crew finished the race in 7:17.0.
WVU (7:56.7) would fall in the varsity four contest as the Hawks crossed the finish line in 7:42.7. The Mountaineers finished five seconds behind St. Joe's, who completed the race in 8:02.98.
West Virginia closed the first session with two straight wins in the second varsity eight and varsity eight races.
