MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
The West Virginia University women's soccer team plays host to Pitt on Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Friday officially marks the Mountaineers' spring home opener, as WVU's match against Duquesne on April 7 was postponed due to weather. The Mountaineers have not played against an opponent since their spring opener, a 1-0 loss to Sky Blue FC on March 10, at Sportika Sports in Manalapan, New Jersey.
"Having played only one game so far this spring, the team is really looking forward to the opportunity to face an opponent and mark our development," senior associate head coach
Lisa Stoia said. "We've really worked on creating more opportunities to finish. The players are working hard around the goal and also are working to stay organized defensively. Organization is key for us on both sides of the ball. I think Friday will serve as a good indicator of where this team is right now."
The Panthers finished the 2017 season at 3-12-3. In December, Randy Waldrum was named head coach.
"We look forward to having a great atmosphere at Dick Dlesk Stadium Friday night," Stoia added. "We're excited to welcome Pitt to Morgantown. It's going to be a great night, and we encourage fans to come out and cheer on the Mountaineers."
In March, sophomore
Rylee Foster made five saves against Sky Blue FC, including three first-half stops. The Mountaineer attack placed three shots on-goal.
