
Thrasher, Osborn Finish Fourth

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following two days of competition, senior Ginny Thrasher and sophomore Sarah Osborn of the No. 3-ranked West Virginia University rifle team finished fourth in the women's all-age and junior divisions, respectively, at the 2018 USA Shooting Winter Airgun (WAG) Championships at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Thrasher, a native of Springfield, Virginia, ended the competition with a 1252.1 total, while Osborn, a Hampton, Virginia, native, finished with a 1246.7 mark. The duos' final scores were based on their qualification marks from today and Friday, Nov. 30, as well as additional points earned based on their finish in today's final.
Thrasher, who just missed qualifying for the weekend's first final on Friday, qualified today with a two-day total of 1248.6 (621.4, 627.2), coasting on the second-best mark shot in today's qualifier. Thrasher finished second in today's final with a 248.9 mark, earning 3.5 extra points.
Osborn, who finished fourth in the junior final on Friday, qualified for today's final with a two-day total of 1243.7 (621.2, 622.5). She finished third in today's final with a 227.0 mark and earned 3.0 extra points. Osborn's two-day score was good for a ninth-place finish in the all-age division.
Junior Morgan Phillips finished 17th in the junior division, 30th overall, with a two-day score of 1231.3 (618.2, 613.1).
Of note, recent WVU signees Malori Brown and Calista Smoyer finished in 22nd (1227.2) and 73rd (1211.1) place, respectively, in the junior division. Additionally, Mountaineer graduate assistant Soren Butler shot 1220.3 (608.0, 612.3) and finished 36th in the men's 10m air rifle competition.
