MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track team travels to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic from April 14-15.
“We have been looking forward to this meet for some time,” said coach Sean Cleary. “A year ago we returned from Bucknell quite pleased and expect the same experience this weekend.”
Bucknell hosts the two-day event at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Friday’s competition begins at 2:30 p.m. ET with the women’s javelin, and Saturday’s events starts at 11 a.m. ET with women’s pole vault.
At last year’s Bison Outdoor Classic, the Mountaineers posted eight top-10 finishes, including a victory from Tori Bertrand in the pole vault. Bertrand won the pole vault title with a mark of 3.75 meters. Sara Finfrock placed third, vaulting a season-best 3.60 meters.
WVU notched a runner-up finish in the high jump from Hannah Stone, who recorded a season-best mark of 1.70 meters. Faith Penny placed ninth with a mark of 1.65 meters.
Shamoya McNeil came in third in the long jump, leaping a career-best 5.80 meters. Danique Bryan finished fifth with a season-best mark of 5.78 meters.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Meghan Jean-Baptiste took fourth with a time of 14.86. Bria Welker competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth with a personal-best 56.61.
Last weekend, junior Maggie Drazba notched a top-10 finish at the Stanford Invitational as the lone competitor for the Mountaineers in Stanford, California, on Friday, March 31. Drazba made her outdoor season debut, placing 10th in the women’s 10,000-meter run, section two, with a career-best time of 34:04.26. She shed 1:46.14 minutes off of her previous best, set at the 2015 Big 12 Outdoor Championship.
Up next, the Mountaineers will face a pair of meets on April 21-22, as select members will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to compete at the Virginia Challenge while others head to the Jesse Owens Invite in Columbus, Ohio.
