MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior right-handed pitcher Conner Dotson underwent successful surgery to repair a broken bone in his pitching arm, coach Randy Mazey has announced.
“I would like to thank Dr. Kelly Bal and our medical team here at WVU for the way they handled Conner and his injury,” Mazey said. “The surgery was very successful and we are expecting Connor to make a full recovery.”
Dotson, a native of Flower Mound, Texas, sustained his injury while warming up in the bullpen prior to his scheduled start at Oklahoma State on Sunday, April 2. He was taken to a local hospital in Stillwater, Oklahoma, before returning to Morgantown with the team that evening. After being evaluated again by WVU doctors, he underwent successful surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. He will be out for the remainder of the season.
Dotson made six starts in 2017 as a junior and compiled a record of 3-3. In 27.2 innings pitched, he allowed 17 earned runs on 30 hits, with an ERA of 5.53. He struck out 26 batters and walked 19.
As a sophomore in 2016, Dotson was named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team and pitched in 20 games with four starts. He tied for the team lead with seven wins and earned a 3-0 record as a starter and a 7-4 record overall.
In 2015, as a freshman, Dotson was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team and pitched in 18 games with seven starts. He posted a 3.88 ERA in 55.2 innings with an 0-4 record.
