WVU to Host Radford in Charleston

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 10/11 West Virginia University women's basketball team makes its annual trip to Charleston, West Virginia, to host Radford at the Charleston Civic Center on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
Tickets are available for a cost of $5 and can be purchased at the Civic Center Ticket Office.
Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will have the radio call on WMMN The Ticket, 95.7-FM/920-AM in Morgantown/Fairmont for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Following the men's exhibition against Wheeling Jesuit, the women's game will air on Jack-FM, 100.9, WPDX-FM, 104.9 and TuneIn. Fans can also listen to various affiliates across the state, WVUsports.com and the WVU Gameday app. There will be no video stream for the game.
West Virginia (9-0) will face Radford for the second time in program history. The two previously met 2009 with WVU claiming a 64-28 win.
The Mountaineers are no strangers to the Charleston Civic Center as this weekend marks the 35th time in program history WVU has played in Charleston. WVU is 23-11 all-time at the Civic Center, most recently taking a 107-40 win over Longwood in December of 2016, and has won 10 of 11 games dating back to 2008. The lone loss came at the hands of UCLA in the championship game of the WNIT.
"We always like to go down there to Charleston," WVU coach Mike Carey said. "We get a lot of support from the Charleston area. It's good that we can showcase our program down there in Charleston because gives us a different area of the state. It's always good to do that."
Radford enters the weekend at 4-3, most recently claiming a 79-62 win over VCU on Sunday. Khiana Johnson leads the scoring with 11.4 points per game, followed by Destinee Walker who is averaging 10.2 points per game. Janayla White leads the rebounding effort with 8.7 boards per game while Jayda Worthy averages 9.5 points per game and is shooting 48.8 percent from the field. Radford is averaging 53.0 points per game as a team and shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 24.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Mountaineers topped the century mark for the third time this season in a 101-43 win over Coppin State on Sunday at the Coliseum. It was the second-highest point total of the season for WVU, and the second-fewest points allowed. Junior guard Katrina Pardee had a career day against the Eagles, hitting a career-best six 3-pointers on her way to a career-high 25 points. Redshirt freshman forward Krystaline McCune also put up career numbers, going 6-of-9 at the free-throw line and 3-for-3 from the field for 12 points.
Senior forward Teana Muldrow, who continues to lead the Big 12 in scoring, posted her eighth 20-point performance in nine games as she put up 22 points against CSU. She became the first Mountaineer since Rosemary Kosiorek in 1992 to record five-straight 20-point games.
The WVU lineup will be bolstered by the addition of Theresa Ekhelar this weekend. A redshirt junior center, Ekhelar becomes eligible on Saturday after transferring from Ohio State last season. She is expected to make her debut against Radford.
Looking ahead, WVU returns to Morgantown for a quick turnaround. The Mountaineers are set to host Morgan State on Monday in a 7 p.m. tip.
