MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball coach Reed Sunahara announced today that the Mountaineers will add nine newcomers for the 2018 season.
Lacey Zerwas (Phoenix, Ariz./Boulder Creek High), Kristin Lux (North Bend, Neb./North Bend Central), Kristina Jordan (San Diego, Calif./Liberty Charter High), Rhyenne Filisi (Waipahu, Hawaii/Maryknoll School), Abigail Cherin (Long Beach, Calif./Mater Dei High), Abigail Gibbons (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central), Marielena Somoza (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina), Keatan Broughton (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) and Ashleigh Barton (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor High) have committed to play for WVU next fall.
"We are very excited to welcome our 2018 class to the WVU volleyball family," said third-year coach Reed Sunahara. "The incoming class will help fill the void left by our seniors, complement our returners and give additional depth in each position.
"Each signee comes from strong high school and club programs, where they have received high-level training and been part of championship teams. This coupled with their versatility, athleticism and strong work ethic makes for a special class. They all have a strong love for WVU and have had the opportunity to watch our program grow. They are eager to be a part of taking this team to the next level with us. I am looking forward to coaching this group, and I know that the future is bright."
