MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University rowing team will open the fall season on Saturday, Oct. 7, as it hosts Duquesne and Dayton on the Monongahela River in Morgantown.
The teams will be racing up and down the Monongahela River, rather than using one stretch.
The boats are slated to launch at 9:15 a.m. and will compete in two rounds of exhibition races. In the first round, the Mountaineers will compete in varsity eight and a varsity four races. After the first round of scrimmages, the teams will return to the WVU Boathouse for a short break, then launch for the second round. In the second round, WVU will race three varsity four boats.
"This weekend's scrimmage is essentially a joint workout among our three teams," coach Jimmy King said. "Instead of the usual time trial format typical of the fall season, we'll line-up side-by-side for some good competitive work. Most, perhaps all, of our pieces will be rate-capped, reflecting the type of work we're usually doing this time of year."
This is the fourth consecutive year that the Mountaineers and the Dukes have squared off in a fall scrimmage, including the 2016 meeting in Morgantown.
A full recap of the Saturday's action will be available at WVUsports.com.
