Mountaineers Set for Mason Spring Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team will travel to Fairfax, Virginia, to compete at the Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 9, hosted by George Mason.
Field events are set to begin at 10 a.m. ET, and running events begin at noon at George Mason Stadium. Additional meet information can be found at GoMason.com. For live results, go to http://scullionstiming.com/msi/.
“This weekend will be about accepting that weather will not be ideal,” said coach Sean Cleary. “Track is like that sometimes. We simply must go out and perform to the best of our abilities, using competition as a benchmark for success and not necessarily how far or how fast we run. Moments like the one we will face on Saturday must be met with a positive attitude and a killer instinct.”
Along with West Virginia, the Patriots will host a total of 24 teams at the event, 22 men’s and 24 women’s.
West Virginia will compete at the Mason Spring Invitational for the fourth consecutive year.
Last weekend, the Mountaineers competed at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, and the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, California, on April 1.
At the Texas Relays, sophomore Shamoya McNeil and freshman Danique Bryan represented WVU. McNeil posted a top-five finish in the triple jump, placing fifth with an outdoor best mark of 12.76 meters, and Bryan finished in ninth place in the long jump section B, jumping 5.54 meters.
While McNeil and Bryan were competing in Texas, three Mountaineers, sophomores Bria Welker, Jillian Forsey and Brynn Harshbarger, traveled to the West Coast to compete at the Stanford Invitational.
Forsey finished 14th in the 5,000-meter run in 16:05.89. Welker placed 33rd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.92. Harshbarger crossed the finish line in 34th in the 10,000 meters with a career-best time of 35:28.09. She improved 2.77 second from her previous best time, set in 2015.
Looking ahead, the Mountaineers will compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, from April 16-17.
