Mountaineers Check in at No. 23

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team checks in at No. 23 with 100 points in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
No. 3-seed West Virginia (24-9, 12-6 Big 12) advanced to the program’s 16th overall conference tournament semifinal appearance and the first since 2014 with a 74-65 victory over No. 6-seed Kansas State on March 5, in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship quarterfinal. The Mountaineers then fell, 67-51, to No. 2-seed Texas in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship semifinal, on March 6.
This is the fifth week that West Virginia has appeared in the poll. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 25 on Jan. 18, No. 24 on Jan. 25, No. 24 on Feb. 8 and No. 22 on Feb. 29. There are three other Big 12 programs represented in the Top 25: No. 4 Baylor, No. 7 Texas and No. 24 Oklahoma.
West Virginia is idle this week as the Mountaineers await their postseason destination. The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship bracket will be announced Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
