2016-17 Indoor Schedule Unveiled

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons announced the 2016-17 indoor track and field schedule, highlighted by two home meets at the WVU Shell Building.
The indoor schedule consists of eight regular season meets, along with the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Championship meets.
“We are pleased with the setup of the indoor schedule,” coach Sean Cleary said. “We have the opportunity to compete at home twice along with a good mixture of competitions to allow for the most competitive environment for our kids to reach their goals.”
West Virginia will have two home meets in the WVU Shell Building, starting with the Marty Pushkin Classic on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 9:30 a.m. The Mountaineers canceled the event last year due to inclement weather. The last time it was held was in the 2014-15 season and the 2012-13 season. The second home meet is the WVU Open on Jan. 14.
The regular season begins when the Mountaineers travel to University Park, Pennsylvania, to compete at the Penn State (PSU) National Open, from Jan. 27-28. This is the first of two events that the WVU will travel to Penn State to compete this season.
West Virginia will travel to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the Akron Invitational on Feb. 3-4.The schedule also features a visit to Marshall on Feb. 10-11 for the Marshall Invitational. That same weekend, select Mountaineers will travel to Seattle, Washington, to compete at the Washington Invitational.
The Mountaineers return to University Park, Pa., for the second time this season, to compete at the Penn State Tune-Up on Feb. 18.
Iowa State will serve host to the Big 12 Indoor Championship in Ames, Iowa, from Feb. 24-25. The indoor season concludes with the NCAA Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas, on March 10-11.
Eight newcomers join the 2016-17 WVU track and field squad, while 26 upperclassmen return.
