McKenzie Vaughn joined the Mountaineer Rowing Program as a graduate assistant coach in 2022.
Vaughn came to WVU after spending two years as a research assistant, working on projects related to the air pollution of West Louisville and the environmental impact of pollution on water, land, air and people.
Vaughn raced for five successful seasons at Louisville, finishing her career holding top 20 program marks in the 2K and 6K time. She started as a walk-on, earning a spot on the novice squad, aiding the 2V4 and 3V8 throughout the season, culminating in a fifth-place finish at the Atlantic Coast Conference championships. She received the Novice Oarswoman of the Year Award.
Vaughn joined the Varsity 8+ in her second year, just 18 months after learning that the sport existed. She earned Varsity Oarswoman of the Year, helping the V8+ crew finish fifth at the ACC Championship grand final. As a junior, she raced consistently between the V8 and 2V8 throughout the season and raced with the 2V8 crew her final season.
Vaughn graduated from Louisville with a bachelor’s degree in sustainability with a minor in economics. She enjoys running, biking, reading, hiking and rowing in her spare time.
