- Won the platform consolation finals at the 2022 Big 12 Championships with a total of 256.65; also, appeared in the consolation finals on 1-meter (5th – 226.10) and 3-meter (6th – 210.70)
- Against Villanova, he took seventh on 1-meter (221.15) and sixth on 3-meter (233.30)
- Competed in the championship finals on 1-meter (8th – 226.60) and platform (7th – 232.65) at the WVU Invitational; additionally, he took second in the 3-meter consolation finals with a total score of 225.95
- Finished fourth on 1-meter (234.83) and 3-meter (244.95) against Penn State to open his collegiate diving career

- Dove at Hilliard Darby High School and was coached by his father, Thad Apel
- Member of the Ohio State Diving Club and ACES Diving Club and dove under Mandy Eby, Matt Ventura and Jen White
- Two-time conference champion
- Four-time state qualifier at the OHSAA State Championships; Apel placed ninth as a sophomore and took during his junior and senior year
- Three-time All-Ohio Diver
- Apel is a two-time NISCA All-American on 1-meter
- NISCA Academic All-American
- Named to Central Ohio Super 12 Team for Boys Swimming & Diving his senior year
- Was a three-time MVP
- Holds the high school record for both six dives and 11 dives
