Mountaineers Win RMU Invitational in Season Opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team opened the 2026 season with a first-place finish at the RMU Invitational on Friday at Youthtowne Fields, scoring 36 points to claim the team title.
The Mountaineers paced five runners inside the top 18, led by Sheila Chepkirui, who won the individual race in her collegiate debut with a time of 20:42.98.
Chelsea Chepkemboi also made her collegiate debut, finishing third in 21:52.22. Aylssa Sauro, who redshirted last season, made her collegiate debut and placed fifth in 22:08.76.
Tecla Lokrale finished ninth in 22:40.05, while Aislinn Frazer rounded out WVU's scoring five with an 18th place finish in 23:16.95.
Arabella Boggs also made her collegiate debut, finishing 21st in 23:40. Claudia Moore competed for the Mountaineers as well, placing 114th in 28:09.50.
The Mountaineers return to action on Sept. 19 at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
