MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team finished second at the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, scoring 74 points.

Chelsea Chepkemboi led the Mountaineers, finishing eighth with a time of 21:49.2. Alyssa Sauro followed closely behind in ninth at 21:53.1.

Chiara Judis placed 12^th in 22:08.8, while Tecla Lokrale finished 16^th in 22:14.7. Aislinn Frazer rounded out the WVU lineup in 72^nd with a time of 24:28.0

The Mountaineers had four runners finish inside the top 16, with Chepkemboi, Sauro, Judis and Lokrale separated by less than 25 seconds.

West Virginia will split its squad for its next competitions, with a group competing at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 9 and another group racing at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Clinton, Pa., on Oct. 10.

The Mountaineers will return to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Nov. 21 for the NCAA Championship.
