MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will embark on its 2026-27 slate starting at the New York Harbor Cup, hosted by Rutgers, on Monday and Tuesday at Bayonne Golf Club in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Golfers will hit the links in tee times starting Monday at 7:45 a.m. and will play 36 holes with the final 18 set for Tuesday. Bayonne Golf Club is a par-72 playing at 7,250 yards.
It marks the Mountaineers' first appearance at the event. Joining West Virginia and host Rutgers will be Kansas, Nebraska, Little Rock, Marquette, Michigan State, Purdue and USF.
The golf team will open its 12th season of competition since the program was reinstated in 2015.
"This time of year is always exciting," coach Sean Covich said. "The guys have been playing a busy summer tournament schedule and are going straight into our college golf season. This will be a brand-new starting lineup for us. We have a very young team this season with only one senior on the roster."
West Virginia's lineup will consist of juniors Aidan Dortch, Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski, sophomore Jack Michael and freshman Michael Shivers. In addition, sophomore Gabe Schmitz will compete as an individual.
"To be able to open our season at Bayonne Golf Club overlooking the New York City skyline is a special opportunity," Covich said. "We are very thankful for Rutgers to host this college event on such a prestigious golf course. We will learn a lot from this season opener and use it to build towards the rest of the year.
