MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University sophomore Joy Naukot earned First Team All-America honors after finishing seventh in the women's 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday evening in Fayetteville, Ark.
Naukot crossed the finish line in 15:19.63, finishing seventh in the women's 5,000 meters against one of the deepest fields in NCAA history.
The honor marks the fourth All-America distinction of Naukot's career and the first for West Virginia in the indoor 5,000 meters since Marie-Louise Asselin and Clara Santucci earned the distinction in 2010.
Naukot's time of 15:19.63 now ranks No. 2 all-time indoors in program history, trailing only her own school record time of 15:11, set earlier this season in December.
"We are very fortunate to have Joy with our program," coach Sean Cleary said. "She is an incredible ambassador for this team, the athletic department, the university and the entire state. This was the best women's NCAA 5,000-meter field ever assembled, and to return home with this tremendous honor is spectacular."
