Rifle Collects 18th GARC Tournament Title

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The West Virginia University rifle team finished with a team score of 4740 to finish in first place for the fourth straight season at the 2026 Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships on Sunday in West Point.
West Virginia's aggregate score was the best in the championship field, edging out second-place Kentucky who scored 4730. The victory marks the 18th time in program history the Mountaineers have claimed the GARC Conference Tournament Championship.
The result is the third straight season the Mountaineers have claimed both the regular season and tournament title. It is the 14th time in program history that WVU has accomplished the feat. West Virginia won both championships six straight seasons from 2014-2019.
The Mountaineers scored a second-place air rifle score of 2382. WVU entered the day with a five-point lead over Navy, producing the best smallbore score of 2358 during the opening day of action. Navy claimed third at 4729 (2353 SB – 2376 AR).
Two Mountaineers qualified for the air rifle final, in junior Griffin Lake and Camryn Camp with matching 597 qualifying marks. Lake finished in first place while Camp took home fifth.
Lake finished third on the overall leaderboard with a 1188 aggregate total. Camp finished in fifth at 1185 while Lauri Syrja finished in eight at 1183 with 92 centers and Jacob Wisman rounded out the top 10 with a 1183 and 86 centers.
Camp, Kocher, Lake, Syrja and Wisman served as counters for the match.
The Mountaineers will take a week off from competition before heading to the 2026 NCAA Rifle National Championship in Columbus, Ohio, from March 13-14.
The Mountaineers qualified as the field's fourth-ranked team with a qualifying mark of 9485.67. Joining WVU at this year's championships are No. 1 Kentucky, No. 2 Nebraska, No. 3 TCU, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 6 Alaska Fairbanks, No. 7 Navy, and No. 8 Georgia Southern.
