MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Karleigh DiCello of the West Virginia University gymnastics team has been named the Big 12 Conference Event Specialist of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The weekly honor marks DiCello's first career award, as well as the first for a Mountaineer gymnast this season. She becomes the first Event Specialist of the Week since classmate Sophia Rice received the honor on March 18, 2025.
A native of Boyds, Maryland, DiCello topped the vault podium for the second week in a row with a season-high matching 9.875 in a quad meet win over Pitt, Kent Sate and Cornell on Jan. 30. She also tallied a season high on beam with a 9.825.
After the WVU beam lineup had struggled to start the year, DiCello and the beam squad went six-for-six to post a season-best 49.025 on the event in the quad meet. Her 9.825 in the No. 5 spot solidified a score that would not see West Virginia counting a fall on beam for the first time this season.
Next up, West Virginia heads back on the road for a Big 12 Conference dual meet at Iowa State on Friday, Feb. 6. Competition at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa, is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
