Turowski Leads WVU to Third Place Finish in Minnesota

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University sophomore Nick Turowski shot 3-under-par to finish in fifth place to lead the golf team to a third place team finish at the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota, on Monday.
Turowski recorded rounds of 74-66-70=210 (-3) to post his second top five finish in as many weeks. Last week, Turowski finished third at the Island Resort Collegiate to open the 2025-26 season.
The Mountaineers placed third with rounds of 285-278-298=861 (+9) in the 15-team field. Texas A&M (Even) won the event, followed by South Carolina (+7). The Mountaineers edged Louisville (+11), Iowa State (+11) and defeated four teams from the Big Ten in Minnesota (+16), Nebraska (+18), Wisconsin (+19) and Rutgers (+20). WVU's third-place finish was its highest finish in its six Gopher Invitational appearances.
With last week's win in MIchigan and this week's third-place finish, the Mountaineers now boost a 23-2-0 record after two tournaments.
Kaleb Wilson finished 15th for WVU after shooting +2 with rounds of 73-67-75=215. Ryan Leach placed 20th with rounds of 68-72-77=217 (+4), Jack Michael was 56th at +11 (71-77-76=224) and Harrison Thompson recorded a 59th-place finish with rounds of 73-73-80-226 (+13).
"I'm really proud of this group," coach Sean Covich said. "We didn't play close to good golf today, but they battled hard in tough scoring conditions. A lot of learn from today, but I believe in this group, they fight hard for every shot and that's fun to coach. Off for a few days then start preparing for hosting the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational."
West Virginia will be back in action in three weeks, hosting the second annual Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational in Farmington, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 29-30.
