Saturday's matchup marks the first-ever meeting between West Virginia and Army. The Black Knights are set to become the Mountaineers' 125th different opponent all-time. Additionally, Army is the second of three new opponents for WVU this season, as West Virginia faced Akron on Aug. 21 and earned a 3-0 win in the two teams' first-ever meeting. The Mountaineers also are set to meet Utah on Sept. 27 for the first time as Big 12 opponents. Over the last seven years, WVU is 10-3-2 against first-time opponents.
Last time out, West Virginia earned a 2-0 win over Dayton at Baujan Field in Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 31. Junior forward
Abbey Olexa scored both goals in the match, recording her first career brace. It also was the 133rd two-goal performance by a Mountaineer all-time and the second this season after sophomore
Maddie Levy scored two in WVU's win over Duquesne on Aug. 28. West Virginia has now seen a two-goal scorer in back-to-back contests for the first time since 2014.
WVU also recorded its fifth game this season with double-digit shots, firing 18 in the match. Eleven of West Virginia's 18 shots were on target, while it also tallied six corner kicks. The Mountaineer defense also posted its third shutout of the year against the Flyers, as redshirt junior goalkeeper
Bailey Herfurth notched three saves.
Tracy Chao is in her fifth season as the head coach at Army, after leading the Cadets to a 12-6-1 record in 2024. Army enters Saturday's contest with a 4-1-1 record so far in 2025 following a 2-2 draw with Maine in West Point on Aug. 31. Sophia Henry leads the Black Knights' offense with four goals and eight points this season, while four different players have assisted a goal. In goal, Karalyn Dail has registered 25 saves on the year with a 0.758 save percentage.
