MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2025-26 rifle schedule.
The Mountaineers will celebrate the program's 75
th season of varsity status during the year. Throughout the season, fans can relive the program's most memorable moments with acknowledgments of the team's history.
The regular season features five contests at home, five on the road, and one neutral-site match. All home regular-season matches will be held at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building.
West Virginia will host an NCAA Qualifying match on Feb. 21. The 2026 Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships are from Feb. 28 - March 1, in West Point, New York. The 2026 NCAA Rifle National Championship is set for March 14-15 and is being hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
West Virginia opens its season on the road, competing in two matches on Oct. 4-5. WVU first takes Memphis on Saturday in Memphis, Tennessee, inside R.F. Fogelman Rifle Range, before heading down the road to Murray, Ky., on Sunday for a match against Murray State at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range. The match against Memphis will also serve as the first Great America Conference match of the season.
The Mountaineers take part in their third straight road contest to open the season on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they take on Virginia Military Institute in Lexington City, Virginia.
The Mountaineers open home action on Saturday, Nov. 1, when they welcome Mount Aloysius to Morgantown.
West Virginia is back on the road, traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana and Columbus, Ohio for a pair of weekend matches on Nov. 8-9. WVU opens the trip on Saturday with a neutral-site matchup against TCU before closing out action on Sunday against Ohio State.
WVU then returns to Morgantown to close out its fall schedule as it hosts the WVU Fall Classic. The event is set for Saturday, Nov. 15. West Virginia will compete against five programs in Kentucky, North Georgia, Wofford and Mount Aloysius.
The Mountaineers kick off their spring schedule at home against Akron on Saturday, Jan. 17, before taking to the road for a matchup against Navy on Saturday, Jan. 24. From there the Mountaineers are set to host Army on Saturday, Jan. 31. WVU caps the regular season at home when they square off with Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 14, in Morgantown. All four matches to open the spring slate are GARC matches.
West Virginia opens the postseason by hosting the NCAA Qualifier on Saturday, Feb. 21. Participating teams will be released at a later date.
The Mountaineers head to West Point, New York and the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center for the 2026 GARC Championships from Feb. 28 – March 1. The Mountaineers will be in search of their third straight tournament title.
Should WVU qualify, the team will compete at the 2026 NCAA Championships from March 14-15. This year's championships are being hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, inside Converse Hall.
Times for all contests and post-season events will be announced at a later date.
West Virginia finished the 2024-25 season with a perfect 13-0 record, including a 5-0 mark in the GARC. WVU claimed the 2025 GARC Tournament title, good for its conference-best 17th title.
The Mountaineers are also seeking to win their eighth NCAA National Championship under Hammond after claiming the title last season. The postseason success marks the 20
th NCAA Title in program history, the most in the nation. West Virginia returns seven shooters from last year's team and welcomes two newcomers.
