MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Freshman
Joy Naukot of the West Virginia University track and field team clinched a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after finishing eighth in the women's 10,000 meters at the NCAA East First Rounds on Thursday night.
Naukot willed her way to the national championship after finishing with a time of 32:51.33, inside of Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. The freshman becomes the seventh Mountaineer in program history to qualify for a spot at the national championship in the 10,000-meter event.
Additionally, sophomore
Kishay Rowe boasted a personal best time of 2:03.98 in the first round of the 800 meters. With the time, Rowe finished 22
nd overall, missing the final round of the 800 meters by .02 seconds.
Next, the Mountaineers continue competition at the NCAA East First Rounds on Saturday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET with the high jump. West Virginia will additionally race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:40 p.m., and the 5,000 meters at 8:10 p.m.
