MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team jumped to third place after shooting a 7-under-par second round at the
GOLFWEEK National Golf Invitational (NGI) Championship at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona, on Saturday.
WVU's 7-under-par 281 was the third-lowest round of the season in relation to par for the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers are -8 after two rounds, trailing Ohio State (-17) and Utah State (-18) in the 10-team field. WVU has a one-shot lead over Oregon State and a two-shot lead over Rhode Island.
Freshman
Ryan Leach jumped 17 spots in the individual standings to sit tied for seventh place. Leach shot 5-under-par today, including four birdies and an eagle on the back nine. He is -4 after 36 holes, five shots back from first place.
Harrison Thompson and
Nick Turowski were both 1-under-par in the second round. Thompson is tied for 12
th place at -2, while Turowski is tied for 25
th place at +2. Thompson is tied with
Westy McCabe, who shot an Even par 72 today.
Carson Kammann is tied for 31
st place after shooting rounds of 73-74 (+3).
