MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 16 West Virginia University baseball team dropped the regular-season finale to Kansas, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers finish the regular season at 40-13 and 19-9 in the Big 12 while the Jayhawks end at 43-13 and 20-10 in conference play.
The Mountaineers will turn their attention to the Big 12 Tournament at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. As the top seed, WVU will face the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 8 Cincinnati and No. 9 Texas Tech on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, graduate student
Jack Kartsonas allowed just one run in 7.0 innings while striking out eight. At the plate, the Mountaineers managed just two hits off the bats of senior
Kyle West and junior
Logan Sauve.
The game was scoreless until the sixth when the Jayhawks put up a run. Kansas then scored three runs in both the eighth and ninth to put the game away.
