MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team is set to compete at the Ford Lake Cup on Saturday, April 26, in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
WVU will enter five boats in the competition: first varsity eight (1V8+), second varsity eight (2V8+), third varsity eight (3V8+), first varsity four (1V4+) and second varsity four (2V4+).
Ford Lake is the home course of Eastern Michigan and relatively new to the rowing scene, having hosted its first race one year ago. It has the capability to support regional, national and international regattas, including the upcoming 2025 USRowing RowFest National Championships, and this event marks the Mountaineers' debut on the lake.
"We're excited to see some crews we haven't faced yet this season and to see where our speed stacks up against teams we're racing again," associate head coach Tina Griffith said. "This weekend gives us a valuable opportunity to measure our progress as we head into the final stretch of the season."
Racing will begin at 9 a.m. with heats for the 1V4+, 2V8+ and 1V8+ and continues through 1:15 p.m. Finals for all five boats are slated between noon and 1:45 p.m. The Mountaineers will face off against several new opponents for this season, including Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, Eastern Michigan and Temple, while racing against Massachusetts for the second time and High Point for the third.
