MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – Freshman
Joy Naukot of the West Virginia University track and field team shattered WVU's record in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 32:21.84 on Friday evening at the Raleigh Relay in Raleigh, North Carolina.
With the time, the freshman claimed second place in the event at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility.
In the high jump, redshirt sophomore
Annishka McDonald also claimed second after notching a mark of 1.75 meters. Additionally, classmate
Olivia Cress tied for 16
th place with a season high mark of 1.65 meters.
Sophomore
Tecla Lokrale finished with a time of 4:25.69 in the 1,500 meters, followed by classmate
Eva Rinker who earned a personal best time of 4:37.84 in the event.
In the 5,000 meters, freshman
Naomi Kemboi and graduate student
Sarah Tait claimed sixth and seventh place with times of 15:39.17 and 15:40.00, respectively. The pair was trailed by redshirt junior
Emily Bryce who notched a time of 16:11.56 and redshirt freshman
Lexi Lamb who earned a time of 16:41.70.
Next, the Mountaineers will continue competition at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. West Virginia is scheduled to compete in the 800 meters, 400-meter hurdles and the 200 meters.
