
Hall Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following his performance at the 2025 Big 12 Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, fifth-year Peyton Hall of the West Virginia University wrestling team has been named Student-Athlete of the Week presented by University Apartments.
Hall became the program's all-time wins leader and won gold in the 165-pound weight class at the championships. He joined Dylan Cottrell as the only Mountaineers to win Big 12 titles in the 165-pound weight class.
His performance helped the Mountaineers to their second consecutive sixth place finish at the conference championships as he was one of six Mountaineers on the podium. Hall will compete in the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships from March 20-22, in Philadelphia.
This Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers do not compete this week … West Virginia will learn their post season fate with the NCAA Tournament selection show on Sunday, March 16 which will air on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
Last Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers competed at the Phillip 66 Big 12 Championship … West Virginia finished the tournament with a 1-1 record to move to 13-11 all time at the championship … WVU reached the semifinals for the sixth time in program history … the Mountaineers opened the week with a 73-69 win over No. 20 Kansas State in the quarterfinals … JJ Quinerly scored a team leading 24 points in the win … the win marked the Mountaineers third over a ranked opponent this season … WVU then fell in the semifinals to No. 8 TCU by a final score of 71-65 … Quinerly scored a 20 points to mark her fourth straight 20+ points scoring game … at the end of the championship the Norfolk, Virginia native was named to the all-tournament team.

Last Week in Wrestling: For the first time in program history, two Mountaineers won gold at the same Big 12 Wrestling Championships as fifth year Peyton Hall and senior Jett Strickenberger won in their respective weight classes … as a team, West Virginia placed sixth with 77.5 points … this is the second consecutive season that West Virginia has placed sixth at the conference championships … it ties the program's best finish at the championships since the conference expanded.
