Sixty-six Mountaineers Named to Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 66 student-athletes from West Virginia University have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team, the league announced Tuesday.
The rookie team honors conference competitors who are freshmen or competing in their first year at their respective league institutions.
Eleven Mountaineers earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. The list includes Weston Smith of baseball, Lydia Harris, Sara Knezevic and Tessa Naldzin of rowing, Josie Johnson of women's soccer, Macey Wells and Madalyn Witt of women's swimming and diving, Lucia Tognoni of tennis and Gunner Andrick, Brock Kehler and Daniel Roark of wrestling.
Student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team must be new, first-time/incoming freshmen who have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial coursework and achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. Additionally, the student-athlete must have participated in at least one of their team's scheduled contests and must have been a member of their respective team for their sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
