MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team begins Big 12 Conference play on the road against No. 41 TCU and No. 14 Baylor on Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1, respectively.
West Virginia (6-5) will face the Horned Frogs at 3 p.m. EST at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. WVU will battle Baylor at 4 p.m. at Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The Mountaineers wrapped up its nonconference slate with a 5-2 loss to Marshall on Feb. 23, in Morgantown.
Throughout the season, West Virginia has had strong play from its newcomers. Freshmen
Lyla Byers and
Laura Villanueva Morillo have played well in singles.
Despite a slow start, Villanueva Morillo has won three of her past five matches. She has played in the No. 4 or No. 5 spot in the singles lineup.
Byers is 4-4 overall in singles play. Byers has also paired with senior
Mille Haagensen in doubles as the pair is 5-4 so far this season.
