MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team returns to the road for a Big 12 Conference matchup at Arizona State on Friday, Feb. 21. Competition inside ASU's Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, Arizona, is tabbed for 8:30 p.m. ET.

Friday's meet marks the first between the Mountaineers and Sun Devils as members of the Big 12 Conference, while it will be the two teams' sixth meeting overall. ASU leads the all-time series by a 3-2 advantage. WVU and Arizona State last met on March 13, 2019, with the Sun Devils claiming a 196.55-195.75 tri-meet victory in Tempe. The two teams met for the first time in 1998, a 195.875-190.6 Arizona State win, also in Tempe.
The meet on Friday marks the first of two scheduled competitions between the Mountaineers and Sun Devils this season. The two teams will face one another in the 2025 Big 12 Championship, hosted in West Valley City, Utah, for the first time.
Arizona State enters Friday's competition with a 6-5 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Big 12 in 2025. The Sun Devils are coming off a 196.475-196.6 loss at No. 4 Utah on Feb. 14.
Last time out, WVU reached a season-high road score in a Big 12 Conference dual meet at BYU, finishing second to the Cougars inside the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah, on Feb. 14. The Mountaineers secured a 195.0 team score, while BYU scored a 195.675 to finish first. WVU tallied scores of 48.875 on vault, 48.475 on the uneven bars, 48.55 on balance beam and 49.1 on floor exercise.

Emerson Smith tied for third place on vault with a career-best 9.825 ... junior
Carlee Nelson also secured a career-best mark on vault with a 9.8. Senior
Brooke Alban tied for third on bars after matching her season high with a 9.8. Sophomore
Kaylei Adams finished in a tie for third on beam after scoring a 9.8, while senior
Anna Leigh took home the top spot on floor with a 9.925.
In this week's Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 50 overall in the first week of rankings based on National Qualifying Score (NQS). Their highest event ranking is on floor, where they sit No. 37 with a season average of 48.915 on the event. Additionally, West Virginia is No. 6 in the Big 12 and No. 7 in the southeast region on floor.
Individually, Leigh ranks No. 33 nationally on floor with an NQS of 9.865, while she also ranks No. 3 in the southeast region and No. 5 in the Big 12. On bars, fifth-year senior
Trinity Macy ranks No. 18 in the region and in the conference, while Alban ranks No. 25 regionally and No. 22 in the Big 12. On beam, sophomore
Julia Brown ranks No. 18 in the region and the conference, while Adams ranks No. 23 regionally and No. 22 in the league.
