
Women’s Basketball Set For Friday Night Hoops Against Kent State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team is set to continue nonconference action on Friday, Nov. 7, as the Mountaineers welcome Kent State to Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
Tipoff against the Golden Flashes is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, and gates open at 6 p.m. Monday's contest will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 FM, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Varsity Network App.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Warren Baker and Daniel Woods on the call. Live stats and game notes are available on WVUsports.com.
Tickets can be purchased at WVUGAME.com or by visiting the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located inside the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum. The contest will be Friday Night Hoops inside Hope Coliseum. Fans who purchase their ticket in advance to the game will receive a discounted rate on tickets for the Mercyhurst game on Friday, Dec. 5.
West Virginia (1-0, 0-0 Big 12) and Kent State (0-1, 0-0 MAC) meet for the 11th time in program history and the first since 1988. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 7-3. WVU is 22-6 all-time against Mid-American Conference members.
Of note, the Mountaineers have not lost at home vs. a non-Power 5 opponent since Dec. 20, 2012, vs. Duquesne. WVU is riding an 18-game home win streak, now spanning three seasons. Additionally, the Mountaineers have won 36 straight non-conference regular season contests inside the WVU Coliseum dating back to the 2018-19 season.
In the Mountaineers ' opening win over Purdue Fort Wayne, WVU forced the Mastodons into 31 turnovers. WVU also recorded 19 steals, with senior guard Sydney Woodley finishing with a game-high six.
Four Mountaineers finished the contest in double figures, as 10 Mountaineers scored in the contest. Senior guard Jordan Harrison led all players with 15 points while graduate forward Kierra Wheeler added 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Jordan Thomas added 12 points and five rebounds, and Shaw finished with 11 points and seven boards. Junior forward Carter McCray finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
Kent State opened the season with an 80-48 loss to James Madison in its season opener. Riley Rismiller had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Corynne Hauser also had 10 points in the loss.
The contest is the second of the season for a Kent State team that finished last season with a 22-12 overall record. The Golden Flashes are led by coach Todd Starkey, who, in his 10th season at Kent State, holds a record of 164-112.
