
West Virginia Heads to Baha Mar Hoop Pink Flamingo Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 23-ranked West Virginia University women's basketball team is headed to Nassau, The Bahamas for two games as part of the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. The event runs from Nov. 24-26 with the Mountaineers playing on both Monday and Wednesday inside the Baha Mar Convention Center.
West Virginia opens play on Monday, Nov. 24, against McNeese State with tipoff set to 1:30 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, WVU will play either Belmont or Ohio State at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday's game will serve as the consolation game or the championship, depending on the result of the Mountaineers game against McNeese State.
Both contests will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network. The games will be aired on either 100.9 FM, with Aaron Brunk on the call. Fans also can listen to the game on the Varsity Network App.

During thanksgiving tournaments over the last two seasons, the Mountaineers hold a 5-1 record. WVU claimed the title in 2023 at the San Juan Shootout before turning in a runner-up finish last season at the Gulf Coach Showcase. The loss to then-No. 5 Texas last season is the Mountaineers only nonconference loss during the Kellogg era.
Of note, the Mountaineers have not lost at home vs. a non-Power 5 opponent since Dec. 20, 2012, vs. Duquesne. WVU is riding a 21-game home win streak, now spanning three seasons. Additionally, the Mountaineers have won 39 straight non-conference regular season contests inside the WVU Coliseum dating back to the 2018-19 season.
During the last three seasons, the Mountaineers have been 26-1 in nonconference action and 34-2 when playing any game inside the confines of Hope Coliseum.
The Mountaineers are averaging 79.4 points per game to open the season and allow just 51 points from their opponents. Additionally, WVU is forcing its opponents into 25.6 turnovers, the 18th best nationally, and has produced 13.2 steals a game, the 35th best mark in the nation.

Offensively, WVU boasts balanced scoring with multiple players in double figures. Sydney Shaw has emerged as a leader, averaging 16.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while Jordan Harrison orchestrates the offense with 4.3 assists per contest. Inside, Kierra Wheeler provides a steady presence, contributing 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Ranked among the top 15 nationally in defensive efficiency, the Mountaineers are holding opponents to just 51 points per game. The Mountaineers have limited opponents to under 35% shooting from the field for the season.
McNeese State comes into the contest following a 106-33 win over LSU Alexandria on Saturday. Arianna Patton has paced the team in scoring with 12 points per game. Dakota Howard and Lexi Alexander are the leaders on the glass, both averaging six rebounds a game. Jalencia Pierce averages 5.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game.
