
West Virginia Hosts Appalachian State on Education Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 23 West Virginia University women's basketball team returns home for one game on Thursday, Nov. 20, when the Mountaineers welcome Appalachian State to Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
Tipoff against the Mountaineers is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET, and gates open at 8:30 a.m. Thursday's contest will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 FM, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Varsity Network App.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Eric Little and Meg Bulger on the call. Live stats and game notes are available on WVUsports.com.
Admission to the game is free. Fans looking to come to the game are encouraged to sit in sections C1-C5 and 107 to 109. The contest will be the Mountaineers' annual Education Day.
West Virginia (4-0, 0-0 Big 12) and Appalachian State (3-1, 0-0 SBC) meet for the 3rd time in program history. West Virginia is a perfect 2-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, including a 2-0 mark at home. The latest meeting came during the 2023 season when WVU defeated Appalachian State, 72-51.
Of note, the Mountaineers have not lost at home vs. a non-Power 5 opponent since Dec. 20, 2012, vs. Duquesne. WVU is riding a 20-game home win streak, now spanning three seasons. Additionally, the Mountaineers have won 38 straight non-conference regular season contests inside the WVU Coliseum dating back to the 2018-19 season.
During the last three seasons, the Mountaineers have been 25-1 in nonconference action and 33-2 when playing any game inside the confines of Hope Coliseum.

Senior guard Sydney Shaw has led the Mountaineers in both scoring and rebounding this season. She is averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Shaw was named to the Big 12 Starting Five and the USBWA National Team of the Week after recording her first career double-double against Temple and helping the Mountaineers to a win over then-No. 15 Duke.

The contest is the fifth of the season for an App State team that finished last season with a 13-17 overall record. Appalachian State is led by coach Alaura Sharp, who is in her 2nd season with the program and holds a record of 16-18.
