LonDynn Betts of the West Virginia University volleyball team was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Betts picked up the conference honor for the first time in her career. The award is West Virginia's first of the season, as well as its first honoree since Oct. 17, 2023.
A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana delivered a standout defensive performance that anchored West Virginia's backcourt in the Mountaineers' five-set upset over No. 19 BYU on Oct. 3. The win marked WVU's first ranked win at home and just the fifth ranked victory in program history.
Betts had 18 digs in a five-set match against Kansas State on Oct. 1 and then collected 24 digs against No. 19 BYU. On the week, Betts had 42 digs over 10 sets (4.20 digs/set), a .933 reception percentage and only two reception errors on 30 attempts. She also collected 15 assists, and one service ace.
Up next, the Mountaineers (13-2, 1-2 Big 12) welcome Cincinnati on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. ET, and will be held at the Hope Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
