October 25, 2025 12:00 PM | Women's Basketball
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mountaineer women's basketball fans will get their first opportunity to see head coach Mark Kellogg's 2025-26 Mountaineers on Sunday night when they play Fairmont State in an exhibition game inside Hope Coliseum.
The game is part of Hoopapalooza, a combined event with the men's basketball team. The men are set to take on Wheeling at 4 p.m. ET, followed by the women's tip at approximately 6:30 p.m. Fans can experience bounce houses, carnival games, a face painter and a balloon artist from open doors of the men's game till halftime of the women's game.
Kellogg has brought the Mountaineers back into the national spotlight across his first two seasons in Morningtown. His leadership has led WVU to back-to-back NCAA Tournament runs and 31 appearances in the Associated Press Top 25 polls, including all 21 polls a season ago for just the second time in program history.
Kellogg boasts a 495-136 record and a .784-win percentage across 20 collegiate seasons. His win percentage is the fourth-best in the nation among active coaches with 10 or more seasons at the DI level. Kellogg's 50 wins in Morgantown are the most in program history across the first two seasons of a head coach and are the third most over a two-season span in program history.
The Mountaineer roster features five returners and six newcomers. West Virginia's 11-player roster is broken down into one graduate, four seniors, four juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
WVU is headlined by senior guard Jordan Harrison, who has been named an all-conference performer in each of her first two seasons in the Gold and Blue. She adds an all-defensive team honor as a sophomore. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma native, has scored 898 points for the Mountaineers across two seasons and totaled 1,309 for her career after transferring from Stephen F. Austin following her freshman season. She was named to the Big 12 Preseason All-Conference Team.
Senior guard Sydney Shaw and sophomore Jordan Thomas return to the lineup for the Mountaineers with starting experience from and NCAA Tournament team last season.
Six newcomers join the roster, including high-impact transfers like junior guard Gia Cooke (Houston), graduate forward Kierra Wheeler (Norfolk State), junior forward Riley Makalusky (Butler), junior guard Loghan Johnson (Texas Tech) and junior forward Carter McCray (Wisconsin). The Mountaineers round out their roster with freshman Madison Parrish. The transfer class is touted as one of the best in the country, bolstering a combined 345 games played and 227 starts.
West Virginia was recently picked 5th in this year's Big 12 Preseason Poll behind TCU, Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma State. Last year's team finished the season 25-8 overall and 13-5 in Big 12 play. The Mountaineers finished the 2024-25 regular season in fourth place in the Big 12 standings and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
Admission to the contest is free and live stats can be found on WVUSports.com. There will be no streaming or live radio coverage for the contest.
