MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – During the third and final day of the Thunder in the Mountains tournament at the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Charleston, West Virginia, freshman
Laura Villanueva Morillo represented West Virginia in the final.
After defeating teammate
Michaela Kucharova on Saturday, Villanueva Morillo faced Marshall's Emma Vanderheyden in the final. Despite falling in the first set, 6-1, Villanueva Morillo battled to win the second set, 6-1. In the tiebreak set, Villanueva Morillo narrowly lost, 10-8.
In the back draw, senior
Mille Haagensen faced Marshall's Nel Van Hout. Haagensen was dominant, winning, 6-1, 7-5.
Up next, West Virginia will host the Martha Thorn Invitational at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts in Morgantown from Oct. 4-6.
