MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (6-7, 0-2 Big 12) was downed in five sets by Iowa State on Friday evening, 3-2 in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones claimed the victory with scores of 14-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 15-17.
The Mountaineers were led by redshirt junior outside hitter
Cassidy Tanton, who collected her eighth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 11 digs. Additionally, sophomore middle blocker
Maddy McGath and senior outside hitter
Hailey Green tallied double digits kills, with 13 and 11, respectively.

Alexis Finnvold counted 38 assists, while graduate student libero
Sydney Reed finished with 13 digs.
Iowa State dominated in the first two sets, defeating West Virginia with scores of 25-15 and 25-14.
The Mountaineers looked for revenge in the third, as Green started off the set with a kill, 1-0. A pair of kills from McGath knotted the score for the second time in the set, 7-7. West Virginia shifted the match momentum with a 3-0 scoring run, taking the 13-11 lead. A trio of unanswered Mountaineer points would let ISU trail, 19-13. WVU stormed ahead with a pair of Green kills and a Cyclone error, 23-15. A block from junior opposite

West Virginia continued, taking a dominant, 4-1 lead in set four. The Cyclones went on to knot the score at four, which was tilted by a Bodily kill, 5-4. ISU dropped three straight errors, giving WVU a 14-10 lead. The Cyclones chipped in a slew of points, as Green tied the score at 18 with a kill. Back-to-back kills from Tanton alongside an error from ISU gave West Virginia the lead, 23-22. Iowa State added yet another error, giving WVU set four, 25-23.
The Mountaineers once again led early in the fifth and final set, 3-1. A 3-0 run looked promising for WVU, as the squad took a 7-4 lead. A kill from Green and a service ace from graduate student setter
Lauren DeLo would extend the Mountaineers advantage, 11-6. A 3-0 ISU run looked to change the momentum, before Green would silence the crowd with a kill, 12-9. Tanton added West Virginia's last kills of the match, as Iowa State charged on, taking set five, 17-15.
West Virginia continues Big 12 road play on Oct. 2, against UCF in Orlando, Florida. Wednesday's first serve is slated for 7 p.m. ET, inside the Venue at UCF.
