
Heimes Named Big 12 Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Justin Heimes of the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team has been named the 2024 Big 12 Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Heimes has been an integral part of the WVU program during his four-year career, as he represented the Mountaineers at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials in the 100-yard backstroke.
At the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, Heimes placed fourth in the 100 backstroke (47.03) and the 200 backstroke (1:44.64). With those results, Heimes earned First Team All-Big 12 honors.
Heimes has paired his success in the pool with success in the classroom while pursuing a degree in computer science. He was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in 2023 and 2024, and he is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team member.
Heimes also was named a Second Team Scholar All-American by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in 2022 and 2023. Heimes becomes the ninth Mountaineer swimmer named Scholar-Athlete of the Year all-time and the first since 2019.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20% of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of a one year in residence at the institution.
