WVU Set for San Diego Regional

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will make its second NCAA appearance since the program was reinstated when the Mountaineers compete in the San Diego Regional in Rancho Santa Fe, California, from May 13-15.
It marks WVU's second NCAA appearance for the program since it was reinstated in 2015-16. WVU was a No. 8 seed in the Louisville Regional in 2019.
The Mountaineers are the No. 10 seed in the San Diego Regional. They will be joined by seeds No. 1 Arizona State, No. 2 Washington, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 California, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 North Florida, No. 7 Chattanooga, No. 8 USF, No. 9 San Diego, No. 11 Kansas, No. 12 Wright State, No. 13 Seton Hall and No. 14 Winthrop.
Senior Jackson Davenport, juniors Todd Duncan, Max Green and Pierce Grieve and sophomore Kaleb Wilson make up the West Virginia lineup. Freshman Harrison Thompson will serve as the alternate.
Golfers will play 18 holes each day on the par-72 course. WVU is paired with Kansas and Wright State for the first round in tee times, starting at 12:25 p.m. ET (9:25 a.m. local) on the 10th tee. Teams will be re-paired according to score following each round.
Six 54-hole NCAA Regional tournaments will be conducted from May 13-15. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of the three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams (30 teams total) and the low individuals (six individuals total) not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
The NCAA Golf Championship will take place from May 24-29, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
