Mountaineers Tied for Fifth After First Day of NCAA Regional

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The West Virginia University golf team sits in a two-way tie for fifth place after the first day of competition of the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, on Monday.
The Mountaineers recorded an opening-round total of 5-over, 285 on the par-70, 6,962-yard course. WVU is tied for fifth with host San Diego, while No. 6-seed North Florida holds first place after shooting a 3-under-par 277.
Junior Pierce Grieve leads the Mountaineers after shooting an Even-par 70 in the opening round. Individually, Grieve is tied for 10th place. Junior Max Green and sophomore Kaleb Wilson sit one shot behind Grieve, each shooting a 1-over-par 71 to sit tied for 13th overall.
Rounding out WVU's scoring is junior Todd Duncan with a 72 (+2), while senior Jackson Davenport carded a 75 in the opening round of competition.
The second round will begin Tuesday morning, with the Mountaineers teeing off on No. 10 beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET (8:30 a.m. local time). Live results will be available at golfstat.com.
