MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will face the Baylor Bears in the first round of the 2024 Big 12 Tennis Championship at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 17.
West Virginia (14-11, 3-10 Big 12) enters the tournament as the No. 11 seed and Baylor is the No. 6 seed. The winner of this match will face the winner of the No. 3 seed Oklahoma/No. 14 seed Houston match in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, April 18.
Since joining the conference, West Virginia has not won a match in the conference championship.
In the previous regular season meeting, WVU lost to Baylor, 4-0, in Morgantown. West Virginia has not defeated Baylor since joining the Big 12.
In singles play, the Mountaineers have relied on the veteran play of senior
Momoko Nagato. Nagato leads the team in singles wins at 13-7. She is one of three players with at least 10 singles wins this season – redshirt sophomore
Maja Dodik is 12-8, and
Tatiana Lipatova is 10-3.
West Virginia has two doubles teams that have played well throughout the year. Momoko and junior
Michaela Kucharova lead the way at 11-8, while the pairing of Dodik and freshman
Maya Bordereau is 10-4.
As a team, WVU is 70-61 in singles, and 31-30 in doubles play.
West Virginia's match against Baylor will be available to watch on ESPN+.
